Champions League, 20-21 October: where the prices sit

Eighteen fixtures, read before a single line-up is known. The margins are the thinnest of the week, and three outsiders are priced above fair.

The thinnest market of the week

Champions League nights are priced harder than any league card. The lowest margin at a single book ran from 0.7% on Manchester City against AEK to 1.7% on Betis against Feyenoord. At those levels the bookmaker is taking very little, which is also why few prices sit far from fair.

Manchester City are 1.14 at home to AEK, a fair chance of about 88%. Roma are 1.19 against Slovan Bratislava. Those two are the shortest of the round.

The two big matches

PSG against Barcelona is close to even: 2.50 for PSG, 4.85 for the draw and 2.52 for Barcelona, a home chance near 40%. The market cannot separate them, and the draw is priced longer than in most fixtures of this size.

Bayern against Arsenal on Wednesday has Bayern at 2.14 and Arsenal at 3.55, with the draw at 4.07. That is a home chance of about 47% - favourites, but not by much.

Three prices above fair value

Villarreal at Anfield are 6.35 at the best book against a fair price of 6.00. PSV in Porto are 5.60 against 5.29. Shakhtar at Inter are 15.00 against 13.22, the widest gap of the round.

None of these is a prediction. Each is a price that pays more than the rest of the market thinks it should, and each goes into the record at that price. They are listed with the rest on the board.

Today's coupon

Tuesday's five are Dortmund, Manchester City, Roma, Liverpool and Porto, 4.71 combined. The chance that all five land is about 20%, and the coupon page prints it next to the price. Results go in the record on Tuesday night.

Wednesday is priced the same way, and Thursday's board will show how many of these prices moved before kick-off.
